Before committing to a new build, compare it with configuring or integrating an existing product. If custom development makes sense, define the first useful release and work through requirements, architecture and interface design before implementation. Testing, deployment and handover belong in the delivery plan from the start.
Agree the backlog and the source-code and documentation handover. A working release must meet the reliability and usability criteria we set with the client, and the core workflow needs to be used in practice. Launch alone does not tell us that.
